Celtics’ Jayson Tatum talks relationship with Patriots great Tom Brady

NEW YORK — Jayson Tatum gets some rest when the Celtics open the regular season against the Knicks on Wednesday. On Tuesday, he took the opportunity to attend a Make-A-Wish event hosted in partnership with Fanatics at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.

There, he was one of the headliners alongside Patriots legend Tom Brady and Yankees star Aaron Judge. Athletes participated in the event with nine children, doing running drills and other activities while also signing autographs and spending one-on-one time with the children. It was also a chance for Tatum to talk to one of the sports superstars, Brady.

“I know him very well,” Tatum said during the Celtics’ shootaround on Wednesday. “I’ve known him since he was with the Patriots. Tom is the best. He has every reason to be arrogant and all that stuff, but he’s really down to earth. He texts me every now and then. He watches the games. He To be a great, great man and to be the best football player ever, that says a lot about him.”

Tatum is also one of the faces of the championship-contending Celtics. When asked if he talked to Brady about the greatness of Boston sports, Tatum didn’t specify any such conversation, but added, “If I get to that level, it would be unbelievable.” Bray Dee won six Super Bowls with the Patriots, becoming the sport’s greatest ever winner. Tatum still hopes to reach that level, and the Celtics hope he can help them win an 18th title this season.

Make-a-Wish partnered with Fanatics to host the event on Tuesday. Tatum has a partnership with Fanatics that allows him to grant some of the children’s wishes.

“It’s great to be around kids who are obviously facing challenges in their lives but still trying to overcome them and be with their friends and family and brothers and sisters,” Tatum said. “When we come to the court When you go up to play basketball and football with them and see the reaction on their faces, you just have to hang out with them. It’s priceless.”
