Charles Barkley rails against ‘harmful’ NBA norms that once dragged LeBron James and Michael Jordan into ‘stupidest thing ever’ verdict

Many basketball fans like to watch the NBA because of the “brutal” competition between teams. Another reason many people watch NBA games is the immense talent and incredible athleticism that NBA players display during the game. However, another important aspect of the game is the heated debate that occurs between fans supporting different teams and different players. In these discussions, the best players tend to be the ones with more NBA championships.

In a recent interview, NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley talked about this “harmful” NBA norm.

During a recent episode of “The Dan Patrick Show,” the 76ers legend called NBA norms “harmful”stupidest thing ever“. He explained: “I always laugh…I’m not sure when it becomes more of an individual thing than a team thing. Unfortunately, people on television have caused this problem, and it’s actually been damaging to the NBA.“

Charles Barkley further added: “No one told Michael Jordan 4-5 years later “You have to get out of here… you’re not going to win a championship.” So, things started getting crazy after LeBron. He started hearing all these rumors saying, “You have to win to be successful,” and he went to Miami. Then, this happened with KD (GSW Trade). So, it all started there, but hey man, I’m very happy with my NBA journey.“.

The NBA Hall of Famer made the ruling after the host asked Barkley if he preferred his NBA journey to that of Robert Horry, a seven-time NBA champion. Many, including Charles Barkley, believe that NBA championships are important but do not paint the “full picture” of a player’s abilities.

Elite NBA Players Who Never Won a Championship

Charles Barkley is one such player who never won an NBA championship. However, he was a rebounding genius and won many individual championships during his NBA career. Despite his relatively small stature, he played the “power forward” position and competed fiercely with some of the best players in the league at the time. During his 16-year NBA career, he won the coveted NBA MVP award in 1993 (he beat out Michael Jordan). He is also a two-time Olympic gold medalist and is the famous “dream team” 1992 U.S. Olympic Team.

Another NBA legend who never won an NBA championship is Karl Malone. The Utah Jazz legend averaged an incredible 25 points per game and ranks second on the league’s all-time scoring list with 36,928 points. Malone is one of the best players in the NBA but has never won an NBA championship ring.

Allen Iverson is another NBA Hall of Famer who, despite his incredible personal achievements, never won an NBA championship. During his 15-year career, he was selected to the All-Star Game 7 times and won the NBA All-Star MVP twice. He is an Olympic bronze medalist and won the coveted NBA Most Valuable Player Award in 2001.

All in all, many people have similar views to Charles Barkley regarding the relevance of NBA championships as a player’s individual statistics. Players like Allen Iverson and Karl Malone are among the most skilled NBA players of all time, and their “greatness” should not be diminished by the fact that they never won an NBA championship.
