Nicholas Jackson has revealed his admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo inspired him to celebrate his first career hat-trick.
The Chelsea striker scored three goals in a 4-1 away win over Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.
Jackson’s third goal came when he received a pass from Cole Palmer, ran in, rounded goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and fired into the empty net.
He ran towards the Chelsea fans as they neared victory and celebrated with a “Siu”, synonymous with Portuguese legend Ronaldo.
He told the Daily Telegraph that he played football barefoot until he got his first pair of boots at the age of 16.
He did write Ronaldo’s name on the back of one of his jerseys, and the Senegalese star was a huge fan of the icon growing up: “Growing up, I loved Cristiano Ronaldo.
“I put his name on a shirt that I wear all the time. It’s not a real shirt because they’re expensive, so you don’t buy them. But I had a shirt and I wrote it on it with a pen 7. Ronaldo. I made this myself when I was a kid.
“Of course, I would pretend to be him, but it’s difficult to watch him play because you have to pay. We all go to my friend’s house.
“We will watch the games together in a big group, not just one person at home. All my friends, we will go to the same house to watch Real Madrid play.”
Jackson’s hat-trick against Tottenham was the first of his career and if he repeats such a feat, the ‘Siu’ celebrations will be back.
“I always celebrate him, even at Villarreal when I scored two goals. So when I score a hat-trick, I have to do it. Now I only do it for a hat-trick, Rather than doing it every time a goal is scored.
“It’s my first career hat-trick. It’s special. The ball is in my dugout so everyone can see it. I hope there will be more but the first one is always very important , I will try my best to keep it safe.”
Jackson has scored 17 goals in all competitions for Chelsea since signing from Villarreal in the summer.
Before the international break, he scored a crucial third goal in the 4-4 draw with Manchester City, taking his tally to four goals in two games.
Chelsea travel to Newcastle on Saturday afternoon and if Jackson scores another hat-trick, St James’ Park could be the next venue to witness his ‘Siu’.
