Patrick Mahomes needs to win a few more Super Bowls before he can compete with Tom Brady for the title of greatest quarterback of all time.
But Mahomes, 28, is advancing at a historic pace and already leads Brady in one key statistic.

Mahomes became the fastest quarterback in NFL history to pass for 25,000 yards on Sunday, surpassing that mark in the Kansas City Chiefs’ 41-10 victory over the Chicago Bears.
“It’s really cool,” Mahomes said. “It’s such an honor to be a part of this organization and to be able to do something like this in this stadium. It’s something I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”
On Sunday, Mahomes was back to his normal super self, completing 24 of 33 passes for 272 yards and three touchdowns, with a passer rating of 127.3.
For his career, Mahomes threw for 25,044 yards.
What makes this number even more impressive is the two-time champion’s time in the NFL.
Sunday will be Mahomes’ 83rd regular season game.
He entered the league as the 10th overall pick out of Texas Tech in 2017 but did not play in a game until the final regular season game of his rookie season.
Mahomes has actually surpassed the 25,000-yard mark in less than five seasons.

He has also appeared in three of the past four Super Bowls and won two AP MVP awards.
After seeing his offense open its first two games of the new season, Mahomes led a Kansas City offense on Sunday that outscored Chicago 34-0 at halftime and finished with 456 total yards.
“It always feels good to get the whole offense going,” Mahomes said. “The first two weeks, we just lost our rhythm.
“I’m proud of the guys today. There are still little things we can adjust, but this is a step in the right direction.”

While Chicago quarterback Justin Fields continues to struggle, Mahomes made history.
It took Matthew Stafford 90 games to reach 25,000 yards, which was the previous record.
Mahomes needs seven fewer games.
As he made NFL history, he was cheered on by superstar pop musician Taylor Swift, who was also on hand to watch Mahomes’ Pro Bowl teammate Travis ·Travis Kelce.
“I haven’t seen her yet,” Mahomes said. “I think if she ends up with Travis, I’ll meet her at some point.”
Mahomes could hit another big number in the next game.
He was at 199 after throwing three touchdowns against the Bears.
His next touchdown pass would give him 200 points in his young career.
Mahomes is making living history while trying to lead the Chiefs to another Super Bowl title.
