Coach Rick March revealed that Serena and Venus Williams were extremely happy as children, adding that their joy only grew greater when they achieved their biggest dreams. March, Serena and Venus’s famous childhood coach, is widely credited with the Williams sisters’ early development.

Even before the world knew about the Williams sisters, Coach March had the opportunity to meet and work with two extraordinary talents. “As kids, Serena and Venus Williams would hold hands and jump and smile more every day. And at the Compton Comets, hands will now hold Grand Slam trophies in their hands, still jumping, And smile more every day.”

Serena and Venus Williams receive special tribute at US Open

At the just past US Open, 19-year-old Coco Gauff lifted her first Grand Slam title.

By winning the U.S. Open, Gauff became the first American teenager since Serena in 1999 to win it all at Flushing Meadows. Gauff, who grew up idolizing Serena and Venus, paid special tribute to the Williams sisters after becoming a Grand Slam champion.

“Yeah, it’s crazy. I mean, honestly, they’re the reason I’m getting this trophy today. They made me believe in this dream growing up. You know, black tennis players who dominate this sport and not much.

Indeed, when I was young, they were all I could remember. Apparently, more people are coming because of their heritage. So that makes the dream more believable. But everything they had to go through made it easier for people like me to do it.

I mean, you look back at the history of Indian Wells and Serena, everything she’s been through, Venus fighting for equal pay. Yeah, like, it’s crazy, it’s an honor to be in a lineup like that. I’m watching, she’s won many times. (Laughter),” Goff said in a special message to the Williams sisters.
