China on Friday denounced what it considers “political manipulation and repression” of the United States for the ban on Chinese TikTok and WeChat apps decreed by Donald Trump.
The American president announced on Thursday that the two symbolic applications of Chinese digital technology are expected to stop operations in the United States within 45 days.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wengbin accused Washington of “putting selfish interests above-market principles and international norms”.
The United States “carries out arbitrary political manipulation and repression that can only lead to its own moral decline and damage its image,” he added.
Donald Trump claimed “national urgency” in the case of the TikTok video app, which is very popular with teenagers, which Washington accuses, without providing evidence, of spying on American users for the benefit of Beijing.
