The cases include Haitian and Dominican citizens, reflecting the diversity of the affected populations.

The outbreak has been attributed to Consumption of contaminated watermainly affecting residents La Cienega. Patients were reported to have serious comorbidities such as hypertension, diabetes, hepatitis C, pneumonia, chronic renal failure and HIV. The condition results in long-term hospitalization for some affected people.

The ministry has launched a response plan that includes active surveillance, health interventions and epidemiological fencing in affected communities. Cholera vaccination campaigns were carried out, chlorinated water distributed and prevention advice disseminated. Additionally, the National Institute of Drinking Water and Wastewater (INAPA) is collaborating to distribute safe water for household consumption.
