Of course, that guy was none other than Michael Jordan. Anthony Edwards is getting compared to Michael Jordan. Patrick Beverley said it, others have said it, and I reached out to the GOAT himself via text message today, and yes, Jordan, he told me that he does see similarities between his game and Anthony Edwards’ game.
There are two types of players that can be compared to Michael Jordan. There are some guys that people think might be the GOAT, and that’s LeBron. His game is completely different than Michael Jordan, but people compare him to Mike because “could he be better?” “could he be this good?” Anthony Edwards is another guy that can be compared to him style-wise. Michael Jordan is the one being compared. While we think Anthony Edwards has a great future, none of us thought he was going to be the GOAT, not even in that conversation, but here are the stylistic similarities I see…
Obviously, the high-flying element of his game, the dunking on people, the aggressiveness… Number two, he loves to defend. We saw it with Team USA and we saw it this year with the Timberwolves being the top two defensive team in the league. Yes, you have Gobert, but you also have Anthony Edwards chasing down the perimeter. Third, he loves the game and he doesn’t try to load manage. and said Jordan told him he saw a lot of similarities between Edwards’ and his own games in the 1980s and 1990s, when Jordan was one of the league’s most ferocious dunkers and ruthless on-ball defenders.
