CHSAA unveils state tennis bracket

The boys tennis season concludes this week with state tournaments throughout the Front Range.

Here’s a look at the brackets.

Class 5A

WHERE: Denver City Park, Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 12-14. The game starts at 9am every day.

No. 1 singles

Legacy’s David Tran tied with Fossil Ridge’s Tyler Van Tassell in the first round of play. The winner will face either Cherry Creek’s Charlie Stern or Denver East’s Trevor Hayek in the quarterfinals. Two players from Parker’s zone, Chaparral’s Alexander Khodzielykh and Ponderosa’s Matthew Hossack, met in the first round. The winner will face either Kai Trujillo of Broomfield or Jake Bronson of Fort Collins.

Arapahoe’s Cale Brush and Valor Christian’s Graham Beukelman could face each other in the quarterfinals. But to do that, Brush needs to be Highlands Ranch’s Dylan Marsan, and Beukelman needs to beat Ralston Valley’s Calder Hardin.

No. 2 singles

Valor Christian’s Jack Nakamura and Castle View’s Jason Smith open play at second singles. The winner will face either Sam Allan of ThunderRidge or Jackson Lewis of Boulder in the quarterfinals. Arapahoe’s Carson David plays Fossil Ridge’s Nate Walton in the first round. The quarterfinal round matchup will pit the winner of that match against the winner of the contest between Fairview’s Adhrith Sundaresan and Broomfield’s Ryder Pierce.

Legacy’s Noah Klein will face Cherry Creek’s Jack Lauer in the first round of singles matches at No. 2. The winner will receive either Chaparral’s Nick Moreno or Cherokee Trail’s Swagat Behera in the quarterfinals. Rock Canyon’s Jonas Telander will face Ralston Valley’s Brady Schwartz in the first round. The winner will face either Regis Jesuit’s Alex Rodriguez-Fields or Rocky Mountain’s Bailey Livengood in the quarterfinals.

No. 3 singles

Legacy’s Rufus Thompson and Valor Christian’s Nathaniel Trevi will battle it out in a first-round match at No. 3 singles. The winner will receive either Porter Gallegos of Fort Collins or Peter Rademacher of Rocky Mountain in the second round. Chatfield’s Nick Lathrop will face Fairview’s Ben May Dan in the first round. The winner of that competition will face the winner of the match between Fossil Ridge’s Alex Van Tuyn and Grandview’s Carter Benton.

Arapahoe’s Brett Sweeney and Regis Jesuit’s Vlad Sukhovetsky met in the first round. The winner of the match between Ralston Valley and Ponderosa’s Payton Donahue awaits in the quarterfinals. Chaparral’s Griffin Mayoss and Fruita Monument’s Trevor Heer open the first-round match. The winner will face either Trevor Robinson of Cherry Creek or William Ronstock of Denver East.

No. 1 in doubles

Columbine’s doubles team of Brady Dobson and Brody Rogers drew in the first round against Regis Jesuit’s Agustin Acuzzi and Brady Jenkins. The winning team will face either Fort Collins’ Jackson Sullivan and Vic Hubbard or Castle View’s Brian Smith and Drew Schauerhamer in the quarterfinals.

The other first-round matchup features Arapahoe’s Matteo Mil and Max Holmes. They will face Rocky Mountain’s Drake Solie and Levi Tech. The winners will face either Noah Bodner/Cecil Carroll of Fairview or William Golinvaux/Kai Pelletier of Denver East. Valor Christian’s Ryan Greenfield and Ryan Mandes will face Legacy’s Khai Nguyen and Logan Livermore in the first round. The winning team will face either Joey Rillos. Ralston Valley’s Tate Ride or Fossil Ridge’s Zachary Monforton/Aditya Manakeshwar of Cherokee Trail in the quarterfinals.

Chaparral’s Braden Wilson and Jake Paris will face Fossil Ridge’s Cadell Webb and Vedant Manakeshwar in the first round. In the second round, the winner will face either Evan Prosser/John Miller of Fruita Monument or Chris Kostadinov/Matthew Hu of Cherry Creek.

No. 2 doubles

Cherry Creek’s Agaista Gupta and Trey Zurcher will face Air Academy’s Oliver Haddad and Dante Ross-Johnson in the first round of play. The winners will face Ralston Valley’s Evan Dozon/Jason Cassara or Boulder’s Leo Damrauer/Henry Radoff in the quarterfinals. Valor Christian’s Harrison Wentworth and Drew Summers will face Fruita Monument’s Jack Savage and Anders Storheim in the first round. The winners will face either Arapahoe’s Clayton Wern, Thomas Stewart, Ponderosa’s Brady Knuckstedt or Max Dyer.

Castle View’s Connor Carey and Sam Laughlin drew with Fossil Ridge’s Ian Miller and Pedro Buffon Hubrich in the first round. In the second round, the winning team will face either KC Eckenhausen/Carl Siegel of Regis Jesuit or Julian Piccolini/Kai Joffe of Centaurus. If Columbine’s Santiago Gomez and Sebastian Lopez can get past their first-round match against Chaparral’s Richit Hujare and Luis Acosta, they will advance to the quarterfinals. The opponent will be either Fairview’s Jake Boston and Charlie Gomulka or Monarch’s Ben Wilcutt/Aiden Swett.

No. 3 doubles

Chaparral’s Ethan Mendez and Nate Howerziel will face Colin Brown and Cherry Creek’s Tyson Hardy. The winning pair will face either Castle View’s Andrew Nungussen and Fiodar Stepanuga or Rocky Mountain’s Justin Morris and Cooper Campbell in the quarterfinals. Rock Canyon’s Sanay and Suraj Soni will face Ralston Valley’s Brodie Colwell and Noah Martin in the first round. In the second round, the winning team will face either Jace Fitzpatrick and Gavin Payne of Fossil Ridge or Henry Webb and Bennett Metz of Fort Collins. Rider Meal from Arapahoe

and Ben Pangborn will take on Fruita Monument’s Jeremy Heer and Nolan Swonger. In the second round, the winners will face Adam Rydel and Kevin Solicien of Regis Jesuit or Bobby Fitzgerald and Hudson Kelly of Denver East.

Legacy’s team of Gregory Waggoner and Carsen Barnes will face Fairview’s Ian Schwartz and Sam Rich in the first round. In the second round, the winner will face either Asa Thurstone and Jack Mohler of Valor Christian or Jason Miller and Tanner Willis of Ponderosa.

No. 4 doubles

Cherry Creek players Willis Possel and Adam Eickelberner open the state tournament against Boulder’s Bruno Damrauer and Nick Watson. The winners will face either Trevor Rund and Isaiah Wilhelm of Fruita Monument or the team of Callaway Orr and Ben Schlickting of Fort Collins. Legacy’s Daniel Cry and Gavin Gehring will take on Fossil Ridge’s Davis Samuelson and Phillip Sampaio. In the second round, the winner will face either Fairview’s Christopher Fitzgerald and Kai Rajpal or Cherokee Trail’s Edward Tay and Ryan Martin.

Roy Jung and Ryan Gromer of Chaparral will have a first-round match against Tyler Ryan and Bennett Cerveny of Regis Jesuit. The winner will face either Levi Rillos and Logan Dozon of Ralston Valley or Isaac Hughes and Palmer White of Rock Canyon. Elsewhere, Rocky Mountain’s Zach Stimac and August Burton will take on ThunderRidge’s Beckham Pace and Michael Hilliard. In the second round, the winning team will receive either Valor Christian’s James Van Winkle and Aidan Case or Castle View’s Andy Hoover and Jonathan Orr.

Class 4A

D’Evelyn Junior/Senior High School and Evergreen High School qualified full teams for this year’s state tournament at Pueblo City Park. Play will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 12-14.

Here’s a quick overview.

No. 1 singles

Aswanth Karuppasamy of D’Evelyn Junior/Senior High School will face Joel Carter of Severance High School. The winner will face either Nicholas Miller of Grand Junction or Shawn Bratkowski of Discovery Canyon in the quarterfinals. Frederick’s Josiah Brittenhan will face Cheyenne Mountain’s Andrew Ballenger in the first round. The winner will face George Washington’s Andrew Rettig or South Denver’s Raphael Weiland in the quarterfinals.

No. 2 singles

Evergreen’s Jacob Gumucio will face Vail Christian’s Daniel Blanch in the first round of play. The winner will receive either Vivaan Bhardwaj of Peak to Peak Charter School or Thomas Stewart of Coronado in the quarterfinals.

Eric Pham of D’Evelyn will face Patrick Tucker of Thompson Valley in the first round. The winner will receive either Niwot’s Oscar Hansen or Golden’s Charlie Labbo in the quarterfinals.

No. 3 singles

Evergreen’s Shepherd Maren will face Varsity’s Morgan Parrish in the first round. The winner will face either Peter Phillips of Grand Junction or Jackson Gilliland of Colorado Academy in the quarterfinals. D’EVelyn’s Zalen Mitchell and Coronado’s Chris Vasquez play their first round match. The winner will face either Kent Denver’s Sebastian Boada or Longmont’s Jesse Arnt.

No. 1 in doubles

Evergreen’s Marlo Hampton and Alex Speier will take on Cheyenne Mountain’s Abram Tweed and Jack Rohleder. The winners will face either Niwot’s Kyle Davidson/Sebastian Moy or Peak to Peak’s David Pyun and Atticus Phillips in the quarterfinals.

D’Evelyn’s top doubles team of Mateo Zimmer and Elias Adams will face Grand Junction Central’s Canaan Ross and Andrew Kirshebnann in the first round. The winners will receive either Jameson and Isaac Boyer of Grand Junction or Udo Zeile and Kelly Goodwillie of Denver South in the quarterfinals.

No. 2 doubles

D’Evelyn’s Luke Christophersen and Dylan Reeb will face Grand Junction’s Nick Silzell and Jack Wellings. The winners will face either Patrick and Shane Walsh of Cheyenne Mountain or Sam Morris and Dray Balk of Thompson Valley in the quarterfinals.

Evergreen’s Charles Burwell and Patton Truchel will face George Washington’s Sam Eikenberry and Ben Slater in the first round. The winners will face either Mullen High School’s Luke Troney and Mason Tucker or Peak to Peak’s Shreyas Sundaresan and Owen Kolachov in the quarterfinals.

No. 3 doubles

Henry Rumph and Simon Czarnecki of D’Evelyn will take on Tommy Goldsberry and Chris Brown of Thompson Valley. In the second round, the winners will face Oliver Neely and Charlie Rakowski of Colorado Academy or Henry Batchelder and Tali Kaplan of George Washington.

Evergreen’s Jacob Mays and Colin Meaney will take on Cheyenne Mountain’s Oliver Page and Cheyenne Mountain’s Wyatt Smith. The winners will face either Jonathan Alexander and Liam Cook of Mullen High School or Ethan Tregligas and JoJo Kirschenmann of Grand Junction Central in the quarterfinals.

No. 4 doubles

Evergreen’s Grayson Anderson and Jack Brukhin meet with Thompson Valley players

Logan Woods and Bodie Tartaglia in the first round of play. In the quarterfinals, the winning team will face either Denver South’s Noah Agey and Torin Wright or Peak to Peak’s Noah Nareddy or Sanjay Gupta.
