Cigar and beer paralyze production by crisis of coronavirus in Mexico


Bad news came for the beer lovers, as large companies shut down their production, distribution, and, consequently, its sale in all the storesdue to the pandemic of coronavirus that affects the country.

Breweries as a group Model, and Heineken announced the suspension of their operations, they must comply with the agreement that was issued after the health emergency that was enacted last march 31 by the General Health Council, which establishes that all sectors do not essential must be closed.

The sparkling product of trademark by the Group Heineken as: Tecate, Indio, XX, Heineken, Carta Blanca, Affligem, Sol, Miller Lite, Lagunitas, and Coors Light you will no longer be manufactured, although the company stressed that consumers will be able to acquire the bottles left in existence.

While part of the group Model include brands such as: Negra Modelo, Modelo Especial, Pacifico, Victoria, Corona Extra and Corona Zero.

Heineken has at least seven plants producing beer, one of them is located in Monterrey, Nuevo León.

In this regard, the governor of that entity, Jaime Rodríguez Calderón, he stated that the creation of alcohol is not essential, so that will close the breweries.

In the meantime, asked not to make purchases in a panic, and avoid congregating in various places of the state to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, which at the national level, left 50 deaths and 1,510 infections until the early hours of Friday.

For its part, British American Tobacco he also announced the suspension and marketing of cigars in the country.

The tobacco is in charge of brands like: Pall Mall, Lucky Strike, Kent, Montana, Shots, Bohemians and Goal.

According to the journal The Financialthe company cigarrera stressed that its decision was announced through an internal document of the firm.

“As of today, we have taken the decision to suspend the operation in the factory and the activities of our sales force. Therefore, our factory, offices and various distributors throughout the country will remain closed until further notice,” stresses the document.

“In function of the evolution of the crisis in Mexico and, always concerned for the well-being of our family, BAT we have determined that we must increase preventative measures,” added the firm.

Group Model, property of the belgian Anheuser-Busch InBev, announced that it will donate to the social security of Mexico, with 300,000 bottles of hand sanitizers produced with the alcohol subtracted from the production of their drinks to combat the spread of the new coronavirus.

“We have evaluated different ways of joining efforts to face this crisis and we are very proud to announce that we will make this donation for hundreds of thousands of mexicans who most need it”, said Cassian, De Stefano, president of Grupo Modelo.

The company explained that the hand sanitizers used to sanitize the hands and the skin of the potential presence of the virus, compliance with health standards in mexican and guarantees a concentration of 70% alcohol.

A few days ago, the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) recognized the solidarity and thanked for the donation of bottles of gel to the brewery.

The IMSS emphasized that the distribution of hand sanitizers that are extracted during the fermentation process and during the development of its product Crown Zero, will be in the Units Medical Family and General Hospitals through 35 offices around the country.
