With the last season of Peaky Blinders, Cillian Murphy finally gets the nomination for BAFTA TV 2023. Check out the other nominees!
After six seasons which, since 2015, have created a highly recognizable and unmistakable world in the collective imagination, for Peaky Blinders to the BAFTA TV 2023 an important recognition could come. Cillian Murphy, with the role that has made him most memorable in recent years, is in fact nominated for the award for Best Actor.
“I am Tommy Shelby”
In a June 2022 interview for Deadline, following the release of the sixth and final season, Cillian Murphy said he was extremely honored to have played the role of Thomas Shelby for almost a decade, and that thinking about it still hard to believe. The greatest praise of him, on that occasion, he addressed to Steven Knightthe author of Peaky Blinderswhich he defined as “a genius writer” because since the beginning of the show, he had already written 36 hours of television, which is all six seasons.
Cillian Murphy since the first season he has conquered the role of undisputed star of Peaky Blinders, managing to create an in-depth interpretation of what is, without a doubt, a complex and tormented character. He is the head of a family of gangsters in Birmingham, and about this he said (read the full interview): “I think when you do a gangster show, you’re always aware of the big gangster movies, America of course. There is a very narrow corridor and you inevitably come across these stories as you go. I think ours differs a lot because of the British setting and the British culture, and the working class story is obviously a big deal. And then if you make a family saga – this goes back to Shakespeare – there’s always the transition of power and how people want to hold power and get power.
The BAFTA TV nominations 2023
Cillian Murphy’s first nomination at the BAFTA TV Awards dates back to 2007, when he was nominated for the award for Best Rising Star (won that year by Eva Green, The Golden Compass).
