“Cinema Victory!”

Unfortunately, here in Italy, the delay in the release of the atomic bomb biopic scheduled for August 23 in Italian cinemas prevented us from joining those who wanted to try and watch both films in the same evening.

Coppola revealed that he has not yet had the opportunity to watch any of the films, but he plans to do so in the near future, and, above all, he is worried about the effect Barbenheimer influences the audience, returning it to the cinema, in a very difficult period for the film industry:

“I haven’t seen them yet, but the fact that people fill big theaters to see them and that they are neither ‘sequels’ nor ‘prequels’, that they are unnumbered films, means that they are one of the kind productions, a victory for cinema”

In a 2022 interview for GQ, the director of The Godfather and Apocalypse Now has spoken out against the desire of many Hollywood filmmakers and studios to produce reboots.prequels and sequels, following the Marvel model and thus being limited to the creation of serial films that did not bring anything new to the cinematic experience: “There used to be studio films, now there are Marvel films. What is a Marvel movie? A film prototype that is recreated over and over again to look new.”

. The director also stated in another post that a new era is dawning for cinema:

“We are at the dawn of a golden age. Wonderfully instructive films are watched in huge halls.

An intuition that we hope will turn out to be true, even considering the closure of cinemas in the States and even here in Italy (from tomorrow, August 1, the historic Odeon cinema in Milan will close), a prediction Coppola it might just be a sweet illusion. The director is currently busy with his latest film, metropolis, which will finally appear on the big screen after a long gestation: the director began work on the script back in the 80s.
