The singing competition is a show in which vocalists from around the country compete for the chance to win a $100,000 cash prize as well as a recording contract with Universal Music Group. Unlike other singing competitions, participants perform in a blind audition format, where they sing behind the coaches.

Azan Hisn, a 28-year-old quality control specialist from Dallas, took the stage and wowed the coaches by performing her version of Jill Scott’s “Golden.” Both Reba McEntire, who joined the show as a coach for the first time this season, and John Legend pivoted in favor of Hisn.
“Your version was full of positive energy and you did some fun things with the melodies,” Legend told Hisnu. “…I’d like to work with you.”
McEntire also told Hisn that she loved her song choices and her energy. The country queen added that she loved everything about Hisn’s performance and couldn’t wait to turn to her. While McIntyre fought hard, Hisn decided to go with Legend.

Calla Prejean is a 22-year-old artist from Houston who moved to Nashville. She said on the show that she worked a lot in restaurants and bars, but also did a great job as an assistant to country artist Sarah Evans.
Prejean entered the competition with every coach’s team full except for Gwen Stefani. Luckily, Prejean’s interpretation of Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain” was enough to make Stefani turn her chair around.

“I am so excited. I like your tone,” Stephanie told Prejean. “She’s just rich and warm and round. I think we can work together just to make the song a little better… because I think you have what it takes to be very strong on this show.”
Next comes the battle rounds, where coaches pit two members of their team against each other to sing the same song together. After the voice throw-in, the coach must choose only one to advance.
The show airs every Monday and Tuesday at 7:00 pm on NBC.
