After a long and agonizing wait, Greta Gerwig’s new work, Barbiearrives in Italian cinemas on Thursday, July 20, 2023. Its release accompanies a real phenomenon between branded objects of all kinds and an unprecedented invasion of pink.
As sung in one of the many songs scattered here and there throughout the story “pink goes with everything”. But beware: this is far from being a pure and sterile entertainment product, Barbie it’s a container full of ideas and thoughts that would be useful and, why not, fun to write an essay on.
Merging minds (and hearts) Greta Gerwig and buddy Noah Baumbach, co-authors of the script, allows you to create a picture as complete, multifaceted, honest, exciting and alive as you can imagine. The success of the project lies in the fact that it fell into the hands of those who had the right skills, sensitivity and insight.
The film contains incredible series of proposalsfrom feminism to mother-daughter relationships, from patriarchy to insecurity, from the importance of dreams to the power of ideals, to mortality. There are many flowers between theminternal energy which goes beyond the screen and affects the people sitting in the room, one by one, in different ways. Therefore, while subjectivity is a fundamental aspect of performance that should always be taken into account, Barbie is without a doubtoriginal workone of a kind, stimulating and curious.

Barbie (perfect Margot Robbie) lives in Barbieland with his Barbie friends, her Ken (Ryan Gosling), and to the rest of the inhabitants – which are divided between Ken, Skipper, Midge (Emerald Fennell) and Allan (Michael Cera). Every morning, the daily routine consists of waking up and getting out of bed, saying goodbye to the neighbors, taking a shower, and then having breakfast before starting the day, which, as always, will be wonderful.
Within one hen-partyHowever, something unexpected, unimaginable and frightening happens. Barbie asks if anyone has ever thought about death. How can a doll like her, perfect in everything she does and is, have such thoughts?
The answer, according to Weird Barbie (fun Kate McKinnon), is simple: the gap between Barbieland and the real world inextricably links the doll to the little girl who plays with it. The reason why the thoughts of one are reflected in the thoughts of another. The only solution, before falling into oblivion, with cellulite and flat feet, is to go and find a little girl to mend the rift between the two worlds.
