The Chilean Ministry of Health reported today 8,270 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, the highest figure since June 5 of last year.
“During the last day, 8,270 new cases of covid-19 were registered, reaching a total of 1,857,735 infections from the start of the pandemic to date,” the health portfolio said in a statement.
The figure confirmed the rising numbers that Chile has been scoring in recent days, where the record had been registered on Thursday with 7,291 new infections.
In addition, the ministry reported 24 people deceased in the last 24 hours, which raised the number of fatalities to a total of 39,355, the Sputnik news agency reported.
Finally, the portfolio indicated that there is 427 hospitalized patients by covid-19 in intensive care units, of which 356 are connected to mechanical ventilators.
Regarding the immunization campaign, the trans-Andean country has one of the highest averages in the world with about 87% of the population fully vaccinated.
In addition, Chile, along with Israel, are the only two countries that already apply a fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
