Coronavirus. Up to 26 thousand cases of Covid-19 in Mexico, estimated ministry of Health

The Secretariat of Health estimated that in the country there are 26 thousand cases of coronavirus. This means that for every confirmed case, there are at least eight that have not been detected by the national health system, either because they didn’t go to the doctor or because it is not applied to them the test of detection of the virus.

At a press conference to publicize the progress of the epidemic by coronavirus Covid-19the undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell Ramírez, he explained that in accordance with the method of Sentinel epidemiological surveillance, it is estimated the existence of 26 thousand 519 cases all over the country.

In the conference, at the beginning, it is reported that there are currently in the country 3 thousand 181 positive casesconfirmed, against 174 deaths.

“We estimate that 26 thousand cases. Someone might say: ‘you are much more than several Latin american countries that have a thousand and so many’. No. We acknowledge explicitly that we have 26 thousand, in any other country that have only the observed cases, is that correct,” he said.

He explained that Mexico uses the method of Sentinel epidemiological surveillance which has been “scientifically based, surveillance efficient,” which was established in 2006 and was developed by the united States, the Pan american Health Organization (PAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2005.

This model allows you to have a recognition of how the behaviour of the epidemic Covid-19 in Mexico and how they have to take decisions for the control and prevention of agreement with the reality that it is identified.

“That allows us to assume the reality as it is and not as wrongly it is thought that it is, in the sense that only what is seen, there is,” said Lopez-Gatell in the conference.
