Costa on Bambino Veira: “He raped a child and has no social condemnation” | Cuyo’s diary

This Tuesday begins the trial of Juan Darthés, accused of raping Thelma Fardin during a Ugly Duckling tour. Laura Esquivel and Gloria Carrá -who were part of the child and youth strip- were invited to PH, We can talk (Telefe) and expressed their solidarity with the actress. Costa, who was listening attentively, appreciated that the times have changed for these cases to come to light, but criticized the media coverage in the Bambino Veira case.

“There is a benevolence in our midst with the Bambino Veira case that is disgusting, it is filthy. He is a man who raped a 14-year-old boy, who, no matter how much he felt like a girl, was a boy ”, he launched.

Consulted by Andy Kusnetzoff, the artist argued that there is a justice that has to do with the legal and another of “men”: “They find this shit extremely funny… It is neither funny nor charismatic. He is a man who did not pay his sentence ”.

He then remarked that the victim was re-victimized, judged and mocked for many years. For her part, she highlighted her resilience: “Luckily she chose a career of service to others. She is a nurse and she was able to resignify all her horror and pain by helping the other ”.

However, by way of closing he concluded: “The truth is that he is a guy who raped a child and has no social condemnation. They talk about his jokes and anecdotes … It’s disgusting, I am deeply disgusted by him and all those who laugh at what he says ”.

“El Bambino” Veira and a case of sexual abuse that seems to have been forgotten

On October 17, 1987, Sebastián Candelmo, a 13-year-old teenager, met Veira on a street in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Caballito and asked for an autograph. According to the Justice, the then technical director told him that his pen was not working well and invited him to go up to his department. There, he ordered him to pull down his pants and then sexually abused him.

During the following months, the Justice investigated Veira and on April 4, 1988, they found him guilty in the first instance of the crime of attempted rape and promotion of corruption of a minor, for which he was sentenced to 4 years in prison. However, the technical director appealed the sentence to the Crime Chamber and was acquitted.

Just twenty days later, the Supreme Court of Justice considered the decision arbitrary and ordered a new ruling. Finally, in 1991 Veira was sentenced to 6 years in prison for completed rape.

Following the new court ruling, Veira was sent to Devoto prison to serve his sentence. He spent 11 months there, until the Supreme Court took up the case again: it lowered the rating to attempted rape, set the sentence at 3 years, and released him.
