Cusco student drowns on Poso de Lisas beach

National police rescuers were conducting the 2023-2024 lifeguard renewal and retraining course at Poso de Lisas beach when they received an alarm of a drowning person.

Immediately, the police launched a rescue in an aquatic environment and entered the sea. They saw the minor unconscious 500 meters out to sea with foam coming from his mouth and nose, and he was rescued. Once ashore, she received first aid and was treated by SAMU personnel.

Mr. Claudio MA (38), a native of Cusco, appeared through the town and claimed to be the father of the minor YRMR (16), who came from Paocatambo, Cusco (Paucartambo) A member of a class arriving.

Subsequently, the student’s vital signs were stable and the student was transferred to MINSA Hospital. The doctor on duty diagnosed him with drowning syndrome and ruled out aspiration lung disease and gastritis. He is still under observation.

If staff had not been retrained, the results might have been different.

It is worth noting that only 11 police officers are undergoing the course and they will be responsible for 5 beaches in the province and therefore they will not be sent to provide services.

It is understood that 30 people were supposed to be rescued but were sent to other areas. A statement from the head of the Moquegua Police District is expected to clarify how many personnel are assigned to the rescue force in Ilo.
