With a budget of $50 million and a gross of just $28, Your Highnessfantastic comedy David Gordon Green 2011, author Danny McBride (even in the cast) certainly didn’t achieve the commercial success that the two would later achieve in the Halloween sequel trilogy. In fact, it’s just the opposite.
During press promotion Exorcist – believerthe director remembered the mistake Your Highness admitting that this was something unexpected for him.
When I made Your Highness with Danny McBride, I thought I was going to win an Oscar. I thought, “Who wouldn’t want to see this movie?” They let us film what I wanted, it was my Fitzcarraldo, my Lawrence of Arabia, it will go down in history as an all-time classic. I was very wrong. But now I showed it to my 12 year old kids, I showed it to them a few months ago (…) I don’t approve of everything I do and I don’t say it. There are a few things… I’ve been having a hard time even re-watching Undertow lately. There are some things that I really like, but there are also things that I look at and think, “It was your choice, man! You should have taken a cold shower before doing this.”
I don’t watch my films often and I don’t think I regret anything. I think the only reason I don’t have regrets is because there isn’t some outside force, some studio, some benefactor saying, “do this, don’t do that, doubt yourself.” There’s a group of people I trust who will probably tell me, “This is a bad idea, let’s look at it again or maybe get some sleep before we do it.” And when someone I have a lot of faith in tells me this, I do it, and when someone challenges me to do it, sometimes I’m still brave enough to do it.
Your Highness: “Prince Fabius is a hero beloved by the people, while his younger brother Thaddeus leads a dissolute life. When Fabius’ fiancee is kidnapped, Thaddeus must go on a mission with his brother to save her and the kingdom.”
The film’s cast includes Danny McBride, James Franco, Natalie Portman, Zooey Deschanel and Justin Theroux.
