If in the 1988 film of the same name we had Elliot and Beverly in the male version, the story, now modernized, deals with sensitive topics, as well as subjecting them to philosophical analysis by characters played by an almost entirely female cast, forcing us to clash. a series with a deeply “feminist” character that he sometimes makes a show of, along with an excessive amount of “political correctness”.
Certainly, dead ringers the series is not suitable for weak stomachs, as it seems to take us by force and make us watch the rough scenes of childbirth and operations at the Mantle Clinic, which can be defined as “horrors of the body”, flaunting the female figure, which, like any form of life, is subject to the natural process of the cycle of life: “you are born, you grow, you multiply and you die”; as if this should be a ransom for all the possible negative consequences of motherhood that we are shown.
The brutality of the scenography
We find the same crude and effective effect in various dinners between cynical financiers and ruthless journalists; where, as if they were gladiator arenas, the characters debate furiously to win arguments with an increasingly heated and aggressive rhythm. We also notice this aggressiveness repeatedly. in Mantle’s psychethat is present in every moment of their lives, from the often exaggeratedly confusing exchange of the viewer who struggles to tell them apart despite some of their typical behaviors (though this results in a gripping method of storytelling) to the almost unnerving atmosphere they create in everyone a situation in which they are the main characters.
