What You Need to Know About Veneers
Dental veneers are a cosmetic treatment designed to improve the appearance of a patient’s teeth, resulting in better looking, more visually appealing teeth.
The main indications for veneers are:
● notch
● stains
● Old restorations and fillings
● uneven or narrow smile
● Space issues
● piling
● Stains from antibiotics or fluorosis
3 Important Factors to Consider for Finishes
1. Bite; if a patient presents with an occlusal type other than that shown, they will not be a candidate.
2. The position of the teeth; if the patient’s teeth are misaligned (crooked), it will be an obstacle for the candidate.
3. Your remaining healthy tooth structure.
2 veneer materials
1. Porcelain.
● Advantages:
– Incredible results, finished like natural teeth
– more durable than resin
– Durability up to 15 years
● Disadvantages:
– Minor teeth grinding required
– Complete in 2 or 3 passes
– it’s an expensive process
– This is an irreversible process
2. Resin.
● Advantages:
– All it takes is one appointment
– It’s a cheaper treatment
– No need to wear down the teeth to place them
● Disadvantages:
– being a brittle material, it breaks easily
– Over time, they change color (become pigmented)
– The finish is unnatural as it can be seen that they are resin
– It is a “reversible” process
Board Mounting Process
● If implant or root canal treatment is required, it should be done before the veneer process.
● A very thin layer of enamel is removed from the tooth.
● Make impressions to make molds for permanent finishes.
● Place a temporary restoration on the tooth.
● At the second visit, the temporary restoration was removed. The teeth are coated with glue and permanent veneers are placed.
When can a veneer be removed?
● When teeth are severely worn down by grinding your teeth (bruxism).
● Whether the teeth have large gaps. Previous orthodontic work may be necessary.
● If the teeth are crowded or the jaw is too small and the teeth are misaligned.
