Department of Health urges New Yorkers to get Covid-19 and flu vaccines — El Nacional

NEW YORK – The Department of Health (DOH) in this city of nearly one million Dominicans has begun a campaign urging New Yorkers to get vaccinated against Covid-19 and influenza.

“When Covid-19 hit New York City more than three years ago, New Yorkers came together to support each other and when the time came, they followed the advice of public health professionals,” said Mayor Eric Adams. Roll up your sleeves and get vaccinated.”

“As colder weather begins to arrive and large holiday gatherings become more frequent, we know cases of both diseases will increase again.”

Dr. Ashwin Vasan, the city’s health commissioner, said the vaccine will be updated, just like a cell phone or computer. “Everyone, especially people 65 and older, people with pre-existing health conditions and people who are pregnant or disabled, should be up to date on their vaccinations.”

He also recommends you talk to your doctor, call 311 or visit www.nyc.gov/vaccinefinder to find a vaccination center.

Most people’s insurance — including Medicaid, Medicare and commercial health plans — will cover the cost of the vaccine in full.

Dr. Wasan said the vaccines will also be available for free to people without health insurance or immigration documents.
