Series in three episodes Depp vs. heard talking about famous process what brought Johnny Depp and Amber Heard together is much more than what emerged from the process itself. In fact, he explores the massive media ramifications and how social media and the network have rehashed and spit out the stages of the trial to the point where the verdict has become useless and redundant.
In fact, as we well remember, the network decided in advance that Depp was innocentas well as the victim, and that Hurd was guilty, and also opened it. And three episodes show us all the hype and hype surrounding the hearings, filtered through phone screens, YouTube or TikTok videos, TV appearances by influencers, commentators and media analysts.
We are shown opposing supporters, and it becomes clear to us how the process got out of hand because it was inserted into the context of the wave #Me too: for many (men, especially) Depp’s victory would even mean the end of the movement, while many women who were victims of abuse rushed against Heard, considering her to be just a “spectacle”.
In a word, the trial took place at an infinitely complex historical moment, at the intersection of new cultural trends, transformations in the media, and requests for emancipation. To talk about it without taking these aspects into account is to not talk about it at all. So in the end, almost no one cared or cared what really happened between them.
