Despite a perfect record in the Finals, Michael Jordan’s numbers pale in comparison to those of Isiah Thomas and others on this elite roster

The biggest reason Michael Jordan is the GOAT over LeBron James is his impressive Finals record. The Chicago Bulls, who featured Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, went 6-0 in the finals. This is one of the greatest achievements in basketball history. But a new list that talks about players’ individual records in the Finals might be deceiving because they don’t have Jordan at the top.

Surprisingly, it’s not anyone from the Celtics or Lakers who takes the top spot in this ranking, but the No. 1 rookie pick from the Detroit Pistons.

Michael Jordan drops in Finals rankings

HoopsHype recently announced the list of NBA All-Star players with the highest winning percentage in the finals. This list is not what one would expect. That’s because Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen didn’t even crack the top ten despite having perfect records in the Finals. They tied for 12th place.

On the list, the number one player is Mark Aguirre. His winning percentage is 88.89.

Mark Aguirre was drafted in the first round in 1989. Midway through the season, the Detroit Pistons acquired him in a trade. The Pistons went on to win the NBA championship that same year and the following year. In 1989, they swept the Lakers in the Finals. The following year, they lost just one game to the Portland Trail Blazers in the Finals. This brings his finals record to 8 wins and 1 loss.

But what’s surprising is that the team’s backcourt bad boy pistons, Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars and Bill Laimbeer rounded out the top ten. The three tied for 8th place.

This may become even more confusing when we look at the fact that Isiah Thomas and the Pistons lost to the Lakers in the last eleven games. But at the same time, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen both had perfect records in the Finals. Jordan reached the Finals 6 times. But five of those series ended in Game 6. This means they lost 2 games in each of the 5 series, causing them to drop down the rankings.

Other rankings to note on the list

This list only includes players selected to the All-Star Game. The Bulls’ Sam Cassell and Bill Cartwright ranked higher than Jordan. Kevin Durant is tied for 15th with Dennis Rodman and four others.

But the funniest thing about this list is the ranking of the Golden State Warriors trio.

Although Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green entered the Finals on the same team, Klay and Draymond had a better record in the Finals. They are ranked a bit higher than Stephen Curry. This is because Draymond missed one game in the Finals due to suspension and Klay missed one game due to injury.

Curry played an overtime game and lost to someone else. So that gives someone else a better record than Curry.
