Argentina’s exports of poultry products to the European Union (EU), suspended since February following the detection of an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), will resume on Wednesday, the Agriculture Ministry reported.

In this way, thanks to the efforts of the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries and the National Service of Sanitation and Quality of Agro-Food (SENASA), the European Union has reopened its markets, resuming destinations that are very important for Argentine exports.

Since the outbreak was detected last February, Argentina has implemented a series of measures to restore HPAI-free status and thereby control the disease and its spread. These actions include suppression policies, cleaning and disinfection procedures for affected premises, and surveillance programs to demonstrate the absence of infection.

Immediately after obtaining the declaration of HPAI-free countries on 7 August and communicating it to the European Commission, the EU took its decision and published it today with Regulation (EU) 2023/1664, which allows poultry products from Argentina to re-enter the EU . European market.

This decision will allow producers to return to the export market, with exports reaching 7.8 million euros in 2022, a 100% increase compared to 2021, according to forecasts from the Ministry of Agriculture.
