Mainers who dine at Falmouth restaurants may have been exposed to hepatitis A.
Lindsay Hammes, spokesperson for the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said an employee contracted the virus while working at The Dockside Grill on Foreside Road from Oct. 23-25 and Nov. 6-8.
Anyone dining in or taking out from The Dockside Grill on these dates is at risk. Harms said there are no concerns about exposure outside of those dates.
Symptoms of hepatitis A, a liver infection, include fatigue, nausea, stomach pain, dark urine and jaundice, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. These can last up to two months.
According to federal health agencies, most people infected with hepatitis A do not have long-term illness.
The Maine CDC says the best way to prevent hepatitis A is to get vaccinated, although good hand hygiene also plays an important role in preventing its spread. The Maine CDC strongly recommends hepatitis A vaccination for drug users (injection or non-injection), homeless individuals, men who have sex with men, and those who are or have recently been incarcerated.
People ordering food from The Dockside Grill on these dates should discard any leftovers. People should watch for hepatitis A symptoms for up to 50 days after eating, drinking or working in restaurants.
