Turin is preparing for the sparkling groove of Only Funk and Spazio211 will open its doors on Friday 9th June from 11.30pm to a blaze of vintage and daring outfits, inviting us to immerse ourselves in a night full of groove and excesses, “Only Funk” is a celebration of freedom of expression, creativity and diversity. It’s an invitation to take the boldness of the ’70s and the eccentricity of the ’80s aboard an authentic soul train.
“Only Funk” has a clear and precise vision of sexy music: body positivity and the freedom to be able to express yourself to the maximum in a safe context. We want the cube, but we want it for any body type; We want courtship, but not one-sided.
Dress code: Watchwords are sequins, close-fitting, colourful.
“Only Funk” promises a sonic journey through the sexy grooves of African-American music with a strong counterpoint to the grotesque aspects of disco music.
Admission € 5 at the cash desk
Spazio211, Via Cigna 211, Turin
Only Funk’s resident DJ of the hot night – Luciano Morciano – dropped us a playlist to get us in the mood. Press run and remember to follow the drops:
Patti LaBelle – Lady Marmalade
(the original one, a sensational hit in its day)
Llama – Love on the Rocks
(Disco Piece of Life, Battisi has something to do with this story…)
Sylvester – You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) (Soulwax for Despasio Remix)
(Sylvester was one of the foremost African-American gay-queer icons)
Gloria Estefan – Dr. Beat
(typical sound from the Florida 80’s)
Pino D’Angio – A Crazy Night
(Prince of Italo Funk, in my opinion the only successor to Fred Buscaglione)
Corinne – Why Why
(Recent French Slut Records, in its Italian version)
Enchanted Disc – Emanuel
(The New Underground Italian Pride)
Geppy and Geppy – Body to Body
(pseudonym of Giampiero Scalamogna, incredibly one of the authors of the AS Roma anthem)
Lost in Music – Sister Sledge (Dmitry from Paris Remix)
(This is what Nile Rodgers guitar would sound like if recorded in 2018)
