Even though Charlize Theron only appeared in the post-credits scene of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, she seems well suited for the role and is very happy to be a part of the on-screen comic book universe.
“It was such a pleasant surprise,” Theron told Entertainment Tonight in 2022. “They contacted us and everything happened pretty quickly. I felt so involved in the creative process of what it could be, so it was all really exciting. Plus, I really like this universe. I do think there’s something really valid and there’s a lot of weight to this story and this narrative. So it’s exciting for me to be part of the players and play in that world.”
Marvel fans will no doubt feel similar feelings about Theron in the MCU, especially after years of fan casting for the actress in various roles. Playing as Clea, whose comics and seemingly MCU origins link her to multiverse-ending events called Incursions, means Theron will likely become an integral part of the great MCU story she so admires. With everything heading towards Avengers: Secret Wars, whose comic book counterpart is focused on the invasions, fans can certainly expect more of Clea in the future of the MCU. Let’s hope that wherever she ends up, Marvel Studios revisits some of the Multiverse of Madness concept art to bring another incredible Clea costume to life.
