We groped around in that cauldron offered by the smodern eriality and, after careful research, we opted: for an award-winning and much-loved family drama which, by all, is considered THE TV series par excellence, but there is also room for a Marvel-themed series, two stories all female (one with a mind-boggling cast) and also a teen-fantasy that is enjoyed by young and old alike.

This is Us

It aired in America and on the NBC channel from 2016 to 2022 for six long seasons. In Italy, after its appearance on Sky, currently the complete TV series of This is us

is available on Amazon Prime Video. A series of rare beauty (even if too melancholic) who, however, gracefully managed to tell the courses and appeals of a normal family American. The protagonists are the Pearsons who find themselves raising three children – one of which was also adopted – facing all the pitfalls of life head-on. Milo Ventimiglia, iconic for his role in Una mum as a friend, it’s Jack; Mandy Moore, former star of pop music and unforgotten for role played in Love stepsin This is Us plays Rebecca. Around them unfolds a story made of sentimentality, of unconditional love, of joie de vivre, enriched with a gaze disaffected with the progressive America of those years. The TV series, in fact, tells both the past of the Pearson family and the present, with a look to the future. So successful that in Italy and on Rai Uno a remake which, however, did not have the same impact.

Wanda Vision

It was the first Marvel-themed TV series that ushered in a strand unstoppable. Available to stream for Disney+ subscribers, Wanda Vision is (perhaps) one of the most successful comic-series in recent years. Capable of being both a comedy and coming-of-age drama, the show featuring Elizabeth Olsen as her iconic lead broke all kinds of records. Set after the conclusion of Avengers: Endgamethe story tells the bizarre story of Scarlett Witch who, due to force majeure, finds herself a prisoner in an alternative dimension where there are neither monsters nor Super heroes. An idyllic world where everything works as it should, but it’s not as it seems and, soon, Scarlett will discover a terrible secret. The series has been praised by critics for its homages to past sitcoms and the performances of the cast, especially those of Olsen, Bettany and Hahn. Also, it has been widely discussed and analyzed by fans due to different theories popular, so for its exploration of pain and nostalgia. She introduced the events to the sequel of Doctor Strange and, in fact, opened Marvel to all theories about the multiverse. Nine episodes for a unique journey of its kind.

Cedar Cove

It sure isn’t one TV series very famous, given that in Italy it was little publicized and programmed in an unhappy period, yet it is a real treat for the eyes and the heart. Ideal to see during a trip out of town. Three seasons produced by Cedar Cove which are available, free of charge, on Raiplay. Freely inspired by the novels of Debbie Macomber (available here in Italy thanks to Harper Collins), the series in question has as its protagonist the iconic Andie MacDowell in the role of Olivia Lockhart, judge of the municipal court highly esteemed and appreciated in the small town of Cedar Cove (precisely), near Seattle. At the center of the story are the events professional and private by Olivia. Scarred by the loss of a child and a stormy divorce, the woman now seeks a rebirth and finds a way to do so when she meets Jack, a charming man but has a drinking problem who works at the local newspaper. Three seasons produced for a handful of episodes full of laughter, sweetness and candid emotions.

Big Little Lies

Freely inspired by the (extraordinary) novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty, the TV series of HBO which is available today on NowTV, was the first to unite under the same actresses as Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman. An all-female drama of great impact that has been able to tell the condition of woman in a reality where only money and appearance count. Two seasons produced for a story of excellent workmanship. At the center of the story are 4 wives, 4 mothers each with their past. The husband of one of them comes killedo and the protagonists, in order to save themselves, protect each other to escape from the judicial machine. However, every action has a consequence. Visually stunning and with a highly engaging storyline, the series dominated the Award seasons of 2017 and 2018, winning the title of “Best Series of the Year” twice. Awards, by the way, all deserved.

Stranger Things

The 80s has never been so trendy. When it comes to TV series to see during a trip out of town it is impossible not to mention the cult of Stranger Things. The Netflix series broke any kind of record is still in production with the episodes of the fifth and final season. Created and developed by the Duffer Brothers, the show is about a small town that has been overrun by mystical creatures and dangerous after the discovery of the Upside Down, a world dominated only by being out of the ordinary. A group of kids find themselves embroiled in an adventurous game full of secrets and mysteries. Very successful precisely because it re-read the 80s with all its vices and virtues, Stranger Things it is in fact one of the best-known streaming series in the world. A record that, only recently, was broken by Wednesday.
