Michael Jordan knew what it meant to be the best of the best, and his competitive nature led him to demand excellence from those around him. However, his desire to always be the best in everything he does can sometimes lead the Chicago Bulls legend to be very blunt. Jordan, who has been speculated not to be too keen on rapping, made no secret of his comments about rapper Common, saying he didn’t belong in basketball.

The 51-year-old rapper isn’t taking things lightly. His skills are far superior to those of a layman. Common even won the 2020 All-Star Game MVP award. However, he recently revealed in an interview that Michael Jordan was not impressed after seeing Common’s basketball skills.

Koeman was a bit hurt by Jordan’s comments. Common has worked extremely hard in basketball to get to where he is now. But Jordan’s caustic comments instantly humiliated Common. While this could be seen as Jordan’s attempt to reduce his competition, it hasn’t stopped the rapper from progressing in basketball.

However, this isn’t the first time Jordan has made hurtful comments about rappers. He’s already been accused of saying he hates the entire genre of rap.

This may have been the start of it all, as Jordan hasn’t been very enthusiastic about the rapper since. In 2009, rapper Cha Millionaire shared the story of being humiliated by Jordan after he asked to take a photo with the Bulls legend. Cha Millionaire further added that Jordan asked him to buy a jersey worth $15,000 so that MJ could take a photo with him.

But it’s not close to the story of rapper NORE’s Def Jam Christmas party. The rapper saw Jordan attending the party. However, what I heard from Jordan was not what I expected. Noel once said: “He (Jordan) said, ‘F*** rap“. NORE also added that Jordan only likes Jay-Z in the rap world and hates everyone else.

While it was controversial at the time, Jordan’s representatives quickly released a public statement stating that Jordan was not at the party the rapper was referring to. It also stated that Michael Jordan was a fan of all kinds of music. While it’s not sure if Michael Jordan actually had a problem with rap music and rappers, it’s safe to say that his comments about Common, who grew up watching the Bulls dynasty in Chicago, may have been a little over the top.
