Donald Glover’s Show Reveals Surprising Casting Pick of Pop Music’s Biggest Star in Swarm Trailer

A new trailer of Swarm reveals an unexpected participation of Billie Eilish in the new series of Donald Glover. Following the conclusion of his acclaimed TV series Atlanta, Glover returned with a new series, Swarm, which he co-created with Atlanta-based writer Janine Nabers for Prime Video. Swarm follows a young woman obsessed with a fictitious pop star and boasts a cast led by Judas and the Black Messiah’s Dominique Fishback and Black-ish’s Chloe Bailey.

Now, with the series premiere imminent, a new trailer for Swarm reveals the unexpected appearance of one of pop music’s biggest stars, Billie Eilish. In a 30-second trailer shared by Prime Video, Eilish appears to be playing a therapist who talks to Fishback’s character Dre, though she doesn’t appear to be treating her like a patient, but manipulating her into harmful behavior.

The Swarm follows the story of Dre and his obsession with a fictitious pop star named Ni’Jah, who looks a lot like Beyoncé, and instead of the “Bey Hive,” her fervent audience is known as “The Swarm.” With the series directly satirizing the obsession with pop stars, it’s only fitting that Swarm chose to cast some real pop stars. Eilish is mainstream pop music’s biggest star and makes her live-action acting debut in Swarm. Bailey is one half of musical duo Chloe x Halle alongside sister Halle Bailey from The Little Mermaid and has also appeared in Grown-ish and Black-ish.

Swarm is also co-created by Glover, who is a pop star himself, performing under the stage name Childish Gambino, and should have an interesting perspective on fame and fans. Building on the Swarm trailer accompanied by its tagline “Murder. Sex. Music,” the series is expected to take several dark turns as it delves into Dre’s obsession. Eilish’s hypno therapist Eva also seems to be fueling some of Dre’s insane obsession. You won’t have to wait long to find out exactly what the series has in store, as Swarm hits Prime Video on March 17th.
