Kanye West seems to have upset his ex-wife Kim Kardashian on his new album Donda.
After more than a month of delays, Donda was released by surprise on Sunday (August 29), and the album appeared on streaming platforms without notice.
The 26-track, 108-minute epic features guest appearances from artists such as Jay-Z, The Weeknd, and Ariana Grande. Meanwhile, fans have focused on lyrics that seem to reference West’s split with Kardashian.
In the song “Jail,” West appears to mock Kardashian for her decision to end their marriage, rapping, “Don’t curse me in the text, why are you trying to press the flex? / I hope, like, ‘What ? ‘ I scroll, I scroll up like, ‘Next’ / Guess who’s overdoing it? “
In another bar, West seems to celebrate the new state of their relationship and brags: “You made a choice that is bad, the single life is not so bad.”
Later, in a track titled “Believe What I Say,” West appears to criticize Kardashian’s decision to separate, insisting that she “never questioned what you asked for” and that “she gave you everything you asked for.”
“I’m going through things that I had to write [sic]”, keep going. “Celebrity Drama Only Brad Would Know / Too Many Family Secrets, Someone Passing The Notes”.
“Brad” appears to be a reference to Brad Pitt, who has been embroiled in a high-profile split with his ex-wife Angelina Jolie since 2016.
It’s unclear if West’s allusions to his split from Kardashian reflect his current mindset, or if they paint a picture of the early days of their split.
Donda was released just days after West and Kardashian reenacted their 2014 wedding during an album listening party on Thursday (August 26).
Kardashian appeared on stage at Chicago’s Soldier Field station in a Balenciaga wedding dress during a play by the donda song “No Child Left Behind”.
Shortly after the moment occurred, Kardashian’s younger sister Kylie Jenner posted a photo of the couple on her Instagram account, while older sister Khloe tweeted, “Damn … I’ve never seen anything! so sick!!!”
