In an interview after her loss to Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff was asked how she still enjoys the sport even after tasting defeat. She responded that she would not let one match determine her career like Williams and Sharapova did.

Gough added: “I grew up watching these games, watching Serena (Williams) and (Maria) Sharapova lose. When you’re in it, it feels like the end of the world, but when you look back at history, they didn’t let one game define their career. I’ll talk more about it, but the sun will rise tomorrow. Tomorrow, I’ll try to go to a movie or something and feel proud of myself.“

She shared that she won’t let anyone lose their sense of self and that tomorrow will be better. In the same interview, Gauff also talked about how the loss hurt her, but she also admitted that Sabalenka played better than her.
