DR hosts Latin America’s largest scientific conference on respiratory health

Santo Domingo, Ph.D./Health Journal. –The Dominican Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery will host pulmonologists from Latin America August 10-13 in the region’s largest scientific congress on respiratory health.

The President of the Dominican Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery, Dr. Plutarco Arias, reported that the Latin American Thoracic Association (ALAT) event will be held at the Punta Cana Hotel in the East Region.

Arias cites topics to focus on; aspects of asthma, diffuse and chronic obstructive interstitial lung disease, emphysema, bronchitis, Lung cancer, management of high-cost drugs, and new treatments that have entered the world market.

He emphasized the importance of this activity to update and expand knowledge on disease prevention, detection, treatment and restoration of respiratory health, and to support good management of health policy by promoting the best standards of research, science and education for health personnel in the area.

Likewise, Respiratory Disease Specialist reported that the campaign will consider the possibility of state drug coverage for these chronic conditions.

He emphasized that this congress will help the medical community to continue to learn, advance and exchange experiences in order to realize the well-being of patients and the humanization of services.

“Moreover, this meeting will be a tool to continue to strengthen tourism and the country’s brand, allowing us to continue to view the world in a positive light,” emphasized the former Minister of Public Health and chairman of the organizing committee.

He said that members of the Dominican Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery, the city of Neumonote, the Dominican Society of Pediatric Pulmonologists, the Chapter of Thoracic Surgeons and the Salvador B. Gautier Hospital Graduate Association of Pulmonologists will participate.

Dr. Arias recalled that ALAT was committed to generating applicable knowledge through scientific research. So did improvements in the Latin American Respiratory Health Index.

“The event is very important because although the declared health emergency due to COVID-19 has ended, it has not ceased to threaten the world’s health, and it is imperative for doctors to be kept up-to-date in order to provide services more efficiently and effectively for patients,” he emphasized .
