In the wake of the natural disaster caused by the fires in Hawaii and the island of Maui in particular, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Momoa expressed words of deep despair and sadness, and also asked not to travel to the islands at this time.
Dwayne Johnsonan island-raised Hawaiian mother wrote on Instagram:
I know that now all over the world you will see the utter destruction and devastation that has fallen on our Hawaiian Islands – our island of Maui – and my heart is broken because of this, and I know that you are too.
He then added, urging everyone to show strength:Resilience is in our DNA. Ancestors are with us. That’s who we are. This is what we do. I love you. Stay strong“.
Also Jason Momoa (born in Honolulu and of Native Hawaiian descent) commented on Instagram:
Maui is no place to rest now. Do not convince yourself that your presence is necessary on an island that is suffering deeply. Our community needs time to heal, time to mourn, and time to rebuild. This means that it is better to have fewer visitors on the island in order to make use of the resources that have now become extremely limited.
