Ed Sheeran released his new album ‘=’ (Equals) accompanied by a new broadcast cut, “Overpass Graffiti”, composed and produced by the artist with Johnny McDaid and Fred Gibson (the trio responsible for the first preview of the album, “Bad Habits ”),

“Overpass Graffiti” has a sound reminiscent of ’80s pop, with synthesizers, where it offers a nostalgic portrait of lost love as Ed puts the soundtrack to a relationship from the past.

Ed Sheeran, his new world of sound

According to the artist, this new album captures the everyday and intimate at all times and elevates universal experiences to a higher plane.

This fourth album was composed over a four-year period following his seminal album ‘÷’ (Divide), ‘=’ shows Ed evaluating his life and relationships as he explores the various degrees of love (“The Joker And The Queen ”,“ First Times ”,“ 2step ”), loss (“ Visiting Hours ”), resilience (“ Can’t Stop The Rain ”) and parenthood (“ Sandman ”,“ Leave Your Life ”), and it also processes his reality and his career (“Tides”).

From a sound standpoint, = encompasses Sheeran’s versatile musical palette, from his signature guitar ballads to moments of more euphoric production like on “Bad Habits.”

Composed and recorded in Suffolk, London, Sweden and Los Angeles, the album is produced by Ed Sheeran, FRED (No.6 Collaborations Project) and Johnny McDaid (Divide), and additional composition and production by Steve Mac, Joe Rubel, Amy Wadge, Foy Vance, Elvira Anderfjard, David Ho, Andrew Watt, Lou Bell, Natalie Hemby, and Ben Kweller. Sheeran’s songwriting brother Matthew also contributes striking string arrangements on “First Times” and “The Joker And The Queen.”
