Democratic lawmakers have been complaining to Vice President Kamala Harris about President Joe Biden’s 2024 campaign, warning that Biden’s reelection strategy “needs to be better” to allay voters’ concerns and potentially defeat the Republican nominee Donald Trump.
Dozens of sources told CNN that Harris has been hosting informal gatherings of Democratic members of Congress, governors and other elected officials who are increasingly concerned about significant losses on the Nov. 5 ballot.
“Complaints about ‘bedwetting’ are minimal anymore,” one source told the outlet, referring to meetings held at the White House, Air Force Two or during dinners at the vice president’s residence.
“The West Wing and the campaign need to do better,” the person added.
Other unnamed Democrats said Biden’s best option for improving his lagging poll numbers is to drop Harris as his running mate, the sources said.
Recent polls show that immigration and the economy remain top concerns for Americans ahead of a possible 2024 showdown between the current and former president.
Meanwhile, Biden’s approval rating is at an all-time low for an incumbent president at this stage of the election cycle, according to a RealClearPolitics polling average, while Harris’ job performance ratings are regularly lower than those of her boss.
Alarming conversations include advice from the governor of Illinois. J.B. Pritzker will address the record number of migrants entering the United States through the southern border, in part by attacking Trump and his allies in Congress for scuttling a bill earlier this month that would have overhauled asylum policy.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, joining Pritzker and Maryland Governor. Wes Moore also disagreed with the Biden-Harris campaign’s approach to campaigning on abortion, an issue where Democrats currently have a clear advantage over Republicans in polls, during a dinner last Saturday at the Naval Observatory, the vice president’s official residence. One of the few problems.
Meanwhile, Moore is sounding the alarm about the president and vice president losing voters under 35 to Trump, based on recent polls.
Rep. Debbie Dingell, D-Mich., also expressed concern about the state’s Arab-American voters, a movement threatening to “dump Biden” in the state’s Feb. 27 primary because of his support for Israel Invasion of Gaza.
Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Steven Horsford (D-Nev.) further said the concept of “Bidenomics,” the White House’s slogan for the president’s supposed progress in combating unemployment and inflation, goes beyond more concern. The scope of voters’ understanding of housing affordability.
Harris has focused on reaching more black voters with an economic message, holding meetings with African-American-focused entertainment and media outlets as well as financial and political figures inside and outside government.
According to CNN, attendees at the December dinner at the Naval Observatory included comedian DL Hughley, director Spike Lee, rapper Fat Joe and actor Don Cheadle.
The meetings were aimed at popping the “bubble” in Biden’s campaign strategy in hopes of pivoting to more effective talking points ahead of the election, though Harris was always careful to project optimism.
“By the way, we’re going to win,” she said at the end of several tense meetings, CNN reported.
One Democrat close to the campaign expressed confidence in how Harris demonstrated “an agent’s level of interest in detail.”
Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said: “Vice President Harris knows the stakes in this election and he is working to get — not demand — to win in this election. most likely to win the support of voters,” an aide told the media.
But concerns that the oldest president ever could remain in office until he is 86 remain high, especially after a scathing special counsel report noted that he had a “bad memory” amid a federal investigation into his retention of classified documents. After “Good”.
Biden also isn’t entirely supportive of Harris’ role in the White House — he reportedly preferred Whitmer as her running mate before being pressured to choose the first woman of color in U.S. history as vice president.
A representative for the vice president did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
