Elodie presents “Red Light”, a new project that “makes fans dance”

7 songs and as many visuals, inspired by Madonna and Miley Cyrus. Controversy over nudity? “My body, our body is manifested and this is politics. I am a free woman with the right to vote at this moment in history. And it’s my duty to do this.” And the frame that caused so much gossip was a drawing by Milo Manara.

For the presentation of the new album, which is not really an album, Elodie took us to a Milan nightclub. The ones with the red chairs, pierced by years of cigarettes, with mirrors everywhere, a little smoky. She was also a little in the dark on stage. Before the start, all the video clips of his new project are shown. A project, yes, because a record is not a record (he emphasizes this), not even an EP. “This is a club record,” as she calls it. Inside there are 7 songs that can be called dance songs, always performed with direct drumming, each accompanied by visual accompaniment. We have already seen/heard the first one: this With the headlights offreleased a few days ago.

Then there’s a piece Glamor, in which “I joke about the exclusivity of the fashion I like least. This is a limitation, this is a contradiction.” Anna Dello Russo is with her in the video. Then there’s a piece called Elle

, “which speaks not only to the LGBTQ+ community, but also to women who are the most bullied. This is part of the manifesto. People must learn to respect what is different from others. At the moment, there is a specific message addressed to certain categories of people. I’m angry, I’m angry, I’m sorry.” The visuals follow each other and we see Elodie dancing, kissing herself, running around the city. We won’t ruin the surprise for you.

Long story short, Elodie decided to take us to the club, let herself go, and if it was 2007 and Elodie was Britney: well, this new project could be hers. Blackout. Seven songs and seven closely related images, the images of which are inspired by more or less recent idols: Madonna (“I’m listening Hang up once a week”), Miley, but if you look closely, you can also find references to Doja Cat or Olivia Rodrigo’s vampires.

This project, or rather, let’s call it what you want, club tape, is a recent thing. “He was born after a concert at the Forum. I watched the series again and noticed that something was missing, I was not completely satisfied. I missed a little anger, clubs, the world that raised me before I became a singer.” The record is intended to be played live, so: “I needed to push it a little bit. I would like the people who come to my concert to go home tired and exhausted. Image is very important, it is like fashion, it is as strong as the message of songs. I love the idea of ​​being able to express myself 360 degrees and play. I’m an adult child, it seems to me that we are always very strict about free choice.”

And the toughness he’s talking about is probably due to the (very boring) controversy over his “exposed” footage released to the publication With the headlights off

(we told you about it here). “I won’t make excuses for some people with confused ideas, you are more beautiful with your mouths closed,” he says in an excerpt from Red light. He continues further, this time at a press conference: “Was there a need to reveal yourself? Yes, we can express ourselves based on the sexuality that each of us has. Enough of this story about the nudity of a woman, which is bound to become a scandal.”

And for Red lightHowever, the choice fell on Milo Manara: in fact, it was the cartoonist and master of the nude who designed the cover, starting with a frame used by the singer on Instagram: “The photo that caused such a scandal was turned into art by the master.” However, he changed one detail: “He removed his hand from his genitals and clenched it into a fist as a sign of strength. The body belongs to me, our body is manifested, and this is politics. I am a free woman with the right to vote at this moment in history. And it’s my duty to do this.” And then, under pressure from the journalists present in the hall, she clarifies further: “It’s wrong that I’m afraid, that women are afraid. For centuries we have taken steps backwards or needed to understand human weaknesses. My balls are full.”

She is Elodie with very clear ideas, hence an adult who has been “going to therapy for two years.” Seeing this conveys irony, firmness, calm. And there’s really no reason to be sad. It’s been an eventful year and today she uses the press conference to also announce the Forum’s new date, the third, on December 9: “I’m proud and happy.”

Red light it will not enter the charts: this is the request of the singer and her team to FIMI. A kind of gift to the fans, without really thinking about the numbers. “I do this for my audience because I want to see them dancing to these songs at the next concert.” Who is your audience? “LGBTQ+ community, women. There are few straight people, and I’m not exactly sorry for that.”

Being a proud feminist, someone asks her if she is going to run for office or if she has ever been asked to do so: “Politics? I’m in eighth grade. We need people who know what they are doing.” And she already seems more sensible than some parliamentarians.
