New appointment with the column “What an actor is willing to do on set”; the Master holds the lesson Willem Dafoe, accompanied by the special guest Emma Stone. The two stars, protagonists at different times of the franchise Spider-Manare in fact the protagonists of a curious anecdote unveiled by the director of their next film.
After The Favouritethe actress Oscar Prize in fact it returns to be directed by Yorgos Lanthimos in the next movie Andwhich also features the recently acclaimed actor for The Lighthouse. Curiously, the two also found each other on the set of Poor Thingsa Frankenstein-inspired story in which Stone plays a woman whose brain is replaced by that of her unborn child.
However, this anecdote comes from the making of the film with the Greek director, according to which Dafoe asked to be repeatedly slapped for one scene. Nothing strange, except that the actor at that moment was not even in the room but out of the shot. Emma Stone apparently hit him about twenty times.
Lanthimos, according to what reported by The New York Timeswould have commented on the story defining them the type of actors you want on a set: «You want them to be part of the movie in every way». For this, Dafoe made himself available to really get hit to give Stone the perfect authenticity for the scene. An approach that in recent times is increasingly contested, as well as that of the so-called Method.
What do you think? Would you get shot out of shot to facilitate another star’s performance? Tell us yours about the anecdote in the comments.
