The shelter will be maintained by state civil defense personnel, the Michoacán State Department of Health (SSM) and the Center for the Regulation of Medical Emergencies (CRUM).

The Family Health Brigade will also set up a medical office to provide care to people against illnesses that may be caused by the rains, such as conjunctivitis, skin diseases and diarrhoea.

The Ministry of Health urges the public to take extreme precautions and follow the advice issued by the Civil Protection Department to prevent health risks, so it is necessary to avoid exposure to rain and to stay in areas with a higher risk, such as the shores of beaches.
