Sydney Sweeney will plunge into the world of Sony Marvel in Madame Web. The superhero film is being directed by “Jessica Jones” director S.J. Clarkson. Sweeney has been confirmed to play Julia Carpenter, the second Spider-Woman who first appeared in Jim Shooter and Mike Zeck’s Secret Wars #6. Carpenter would become a recurring supporting character in the Spider-Man and Marvel universes, joining the superteams West Coast Avengers and Force Works, and later becoming the second Madame Web. an action that could lead to her getting her own costume.
While the set photos only show Sweeney in street clothes, artist Jackson Derr (@JaxsonDerr) shared on his Instagram what the actress might have looked like in the black-and-white costume worn by Spider-Woman in the comics. The image features Spider-Woman’s iconic costume, with a white logo, arms and legs, and a black torso. The hero’s white eyes and long blond hair can also be seen in the painting, which depicts Spider-Woman Sweeney crouched on top of a web.
While it remains to be seen whether Carpenter Sweeney will don the suit or whether it will be saved for future installments in Sony’s Spider-Man universe, seeing a mock-up of the hero should be of interest to fans wanting to see him in action. Jackson Durr’s work shows how great Sweeney would look as Spider-Woman. Let’s hope audiences get to see the actress in the iconic Madame Web costume, because it’s too cool to leave on the cutting room floor.
Madame Web is scheduled for release on February 14, 2024.
