Quick X finally appeared on the big Italian screens after a long wait and was immediately a great success with the public, which bodes well for what will be the last chapters of the saga.
One of its historic faces, the rapper, has recently stepped in to help the franchise succeed. Ludacriswho has appeared as Tej since the first cult film in 2001. During the All the Smoke podcast hosted by Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, Ludacris answered a specific question about the franchise by bluntly defining it as “the dumbest question in the world‘:
This is the most stupid question in the world. And I’ll tell you why. Because no matter what industry we’re in, podcasts, music, movies, it all stays in the end. But it’s about how much you spend versus how much you earn. We’re making billions of goddamn dollars, brethren, and I tell you this from the bottom of my heart. I’m not trying to brag or anything like that. So when you say — when some of you keep saying, “Why the hell are you still making these films?” Let me tell you why. Because if you spend $200 million and make a billion, who the hell is going to tell you to stop making these films when you make $800 fucking million. How?
Meanwhile Quick X made it to Italian cinemas, scoring record numbers at the national box office, with more than 6 million euros earned only the first weekend. In the rest of the world, the film earned $365.8 million, propelling the franchise to surpass $7 billion at the box office. The opening weekend success also saw Universal Pictures become the first studio to break the US$1 billion mark in 2023 at the box office.
The film was directed by Louis Leterrier Written by Justin Lin and Dan Mazo. The cast sees the return of their historical members, including VIN diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sun Kangand its newest faces such as Jason Statham, John Cena, Scott Eastwood, Helen Mirren AND Charlize Theron.
