Feels Brave About Nude Scenes in ‘Lee’

Kate Winslet has opened up about the nude scenes she had to film for her latest film, Lee. The film premiered on September 9 at the Toronto International Film Festival. Director: Ellen Kuras, starring Kate Winslet. During the interview, the actress wanted to talk about the nude scenes in the film.

Kate Winslet, who recently spoke out about body shaming, had the opportunity to discuss the nude scenes in Lee’s film. The actress, known for her roles in Titanic, Revolutionary Road and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, said: “It’s incredibly outrageous that men think you want and need them. One director once even told me: “Listen, make my film, and I’ll finance your little Lee.” Some potential male investors have constantly asked me, “Tell me why I might like this woman?” Lee’s nude scenes are not an issue after he suffered the worst punishment. I would even call it a mockery. I had to be very brave to allow my body to be its most authentic version without feeling the need to hide.”

Winslet also commented on the #MeToo movement, saying: “This is the best thing. Young actresses are no longer afraid. I’m so proud of it. The world’s culture is changing in ways I couldn’t have imagined when I was 20.”

Directed by Ellen Kuras, Lee is based on the 1985 novel The Life of Lee Miller and tells the story of Lee, a former model who becomes a Vogue photographer during World War II. In addition to Kate Winslet, the film’s cast also includes Alexander Skarsgård, Marion Cotillard, Andrea Riseborough, Josh O’Connor and James Murray.
