Mexican drug dealer Ovid Guzman Lopezson Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmanwas extradited from Mexico to the United States to face drug trafficking charges on charges related to the sale and purchase of fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana.
US authorities formally requested the extradition of Ovidio Guzman in February this year, but the decision was announced only in the last few hours by US Attorney General Merrick Garland.
The criminal was arrested on January 5 during an operation carried out by the Mexican army in the small town of Jesus Maria in the state of Sinaloa, and has since been held in the Altiplano maximum security prison. Official sources in the Mexican government confirmed that Interpol agents arrived at the Altiplano federal prison at around 1:00 pm yesterday to carry out the extradition order.
At the moment, Ovidio Guzman is already in Chicago. General, United States government has accumulated eleven criminal charges against Lopez, whom authorities have identified as an heir to the Sinaloa cartel founded by his father, who also helped escape with three of his brothers from the same Altiplano federal prison in 2015.
