    The plot of the movie: In the French Alps, near the small university town of Guernon, the body of a murdered and mutilated man is discovered. The man is found in a fetal position, with his eyes gouged out and his hands cut off. The task of the investigation is not given to the local police but to the famous Parisian commissioner Pierre Niemans. The victim is identified as Remy Callois, professor and librarian of the University, an ancient institution linked to the territory and connected to the nearby hospital.
    Commissioner Niemans’ first step is to understand the reason for the mutilations and therefore questions Bernard Cherneze, a local ophthalmologist who once worked at the University. Destroyed by the rejection, the man decides to move, leaving the house empty. Some time later, in a Boston restaurant, Newton meets Gwen, a waitress who pretends to be Hungarian. Believing she doesn’t understand English, the man tells him the sad story of her crying. When the club closes, Newton finally discovers the girl’s prank and decides to accompany her to her house, where they end up spending the night together.
    The next day, Gwen wakes up to find that Newton is gone, but she has absently forgotten the drawing of the house she had built at Dobbs Mill.
