FIMO will vaccinate 2,000 people every day against influenza and COVID-19

This morning the Ferrol Health District started its vaccination campaign against influenza and COVID-19. Although the vaccination location is again the International Trade Fair (FIMO), this time it will be in the General Assembly Hall, next to the cafeteria.The call will continue throughout the week, including the November 1 holiday, and It is aimed at people between the ages of 70 and 79, and professionals who come into contact with risk groups, such as health workers or staff in social health centres.

It is expected that between the two groups An average of 2,000 visitors per day. To this end, we have activated longer vaccination schedules from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and 3:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Up to 12 vaccination sites will be available, with an additional three for Galflu clinical trials. Those cited can choose whether to receive a flu shot, a COVID-19 vaccine or both. It’s worth mentioning that as long as you haven’t had COVID-19 in the past three months, you’ll get one dose in each arm.

It is worth noting that the Ferrol Health District has completed its cooperation with the Social Health Center since September 25 last year. Subsequently, people in home isolation and high-risk groups were vaccinated at the Naval Hospital of Ferrol University Hospital Complex. Senior citizens over the age of 80 can visit 10 vaccination points at different health centres.

The vaccination campaign, organized by the General Directorate of Public Health of the Ministry of Health, seeks to cover all people over 60 years old, pregnant women, postpartum women, people under 60 years old with risk conditions, and essential public service personnel such as security forces, firefighters and civil protection .

On the other hand, people aged 65 to 79 will be invited to take part in a flu vaccine study, organized by the Department of Health and the Genetics, Vaccines and Infectious Diseases Panel (GENVIP) of the Institute of Health Research in Santiago (IDIS). The Galflu trial is one of the largest conducted in Spain and aims to test the effectiveness of a high-dose version of the flu vaccine in people aged 65 to 79 years. Invitations will be sent via text message, which will provide information about the clinical trial and the possibility of participation.
