On January 6, 2021, the family announced the death of 85-year-old chef Albert Roux.

The message of Albert Roux’s departure was published on the official website of the Le Gavroche restaurant: “The Roux family announced the sad death of Albert Roux, who was ill for some time, at the age of 85 on January 4, 2021.”

Together with his younger brother Michel, Albert Roux was at the forefront of the culinary revolution in London, which began with the emergence of the restaurant Le Gavroche in 1967. “He has been a mentor to many people in the hospitality industry and a real inspiration for aspiring chefs, including me,” Albert’s son Michel Roux Jr. shared in an official message.

Michel Roux Sr., who co-founded the legendary London restaurant with Albert, died on March 11, 2020, at the age of 78.

Le Gavroche is currently run by the Roux family, while Michel Roux Jr. is in charge of the kitchen. On October 8, 2020, Albert Roux celebrated his 85th birthday.
