Venezia 80, a young and exciting reality

“We have repeated this many times, but I also enjoy doing it on occasion.80th International Film Festival. There Venice Biennale it lives through the changes of history, thanks to its privileged vantage point of the art world of any breadth, perhaps like no other cultural institution.” With these words, the President of the Biennale, Robert Cicuttosuggests how much art is always and in any case a privileged area for observation and reading reality and often predict the future. See you in Venice from August 30 to September 9. And in terms of cinematic art, the Biennale boasts a real flagship. This edition Film screening this is the eightieth year, but the enthusiasm that it generates and conveys is always associated with a young and exciting reality, alive and pulsing.

Also this year the program is very interesting: 82 feature films in the official selection are divided as follows: 23 in the “Venice 80” section (competition), 19 in the non-competition section (of which 6 are documentaries), a special screening, 18 in the Horizons section, 9 in Orizzonti Extra section, 9 Venezia Classici section – documentaries about cinema, 3 Biennale College section – Cinema, total 54 countries represented. The Venice 80 jury consists of Damien Chazellewho is President (U.S. director, screenwriter and film producer), from Saleh Bakri, Jane Campion, Mia Hansen-Löwe, Gabriele Mainetti, Martin McDonagh, Santiago Mitre, Laura Poitras, Shu Qi.

“Famous authors,” says Antonio Barbera, artistic director of the exhibition, “who show their extraordinary creativity to the fullest, solid directors who prove their talent and ability to interpret the present and its anxieties, newcomers who follow the generations that preceded by tracing new paths in the future that awaits us and the growing number of female directors that encourage us to hope for the future and the desired gender equality.” Finally, even if there is something to talk about, they are attributed to the director.
