From Choppy Bob to Foxy Red: 5 Celebrity-Approved Fall Hair Trends

The change of seasons is the best opportunity to shake up your beauty look.

Whether you’re looking to get a haircut or style your locks differently, there are plenty of celebrity-approved hair trends out there.

Hair experts predict these looks will be popular this fall…

1. Canceled updates

Uncombed hairstyles are the perfect fall look for those who aren’t too concerned about precision.

“Say goodbye to stiff, over-the-top hairstyles and hello to a style that seamlessly blends comfort and fashion,” says Gennaro Dell’Aquila, creative director at GA Salons.

“Imagine French curls with artfully loose locks or messy buns executed so expertly that they are nothing less than a work of art.”

Model Kendall Jenner and Killing Eve actress Sandra Oh are just some of the celebrities who are fans of this look.

If you want to recreate it at home, Dell’Aquila recommends first applying a small amount of texturizing product “to add volume and grip” and then: “Pull your hair into a low, loose ponytail, leaving a few sections for added effect.” relaxed look.”

Finally, he says, “Gently twist the ponytail and secure it with bobby pins, leaving some ends sticking out for a loose look,” and finish with hairspray.

2. Glass hair

On the opposite end of the spectrum is the growing trend for “glass hair” – locks so straight and shiny they appear to reflect light – seen on everyone from Demi Moore to new Big Brother host AJ Odudu.

“This style isn’t for everyone—it’s for those who want to redefine perfection,” warns Dell’Aquila.

If you want to try this look at home, Dell’Aquila recommends washing your hair with a smoothing shampoo and conditioner (“This will help achieve the smooth, shiny look of glass hair”) before applying a heat protectant and drying it.

“To achieve a sleek look, blow dry your hair with a round brush, making sure all strands are perfectly straight and sleek,” says Dell’Aquila.

“To achieve a glassy shine, straighten small sections of hair at a time. (Then) apply a light shine serum or spray to enhance the glossy look.”

3. Curly bangs

“Curly, face-framing bangs will be in style this season,” predicts Jenny Roberts, afro hair expert at SheaMoisture UK.

“As more women embrace natural hair textures, curly bangs will allow them to take their afro to the next level. “The bangs should curve slightly at the sides of the face to create a smooth transition, which can be completed using a freehand cutting technique.”

Look to celebrities like grown-up star Yara Shahidi, Pattern Beauty founder Tracee Ellis Ross, and Barbie actress Issa Rae for curly bangs inspiration.

If you want this look, Roberts recommends working with a natural hair specialist, “as they can ensure the look matches your hair texture perfectly.”

To keep your hair looking fresh, she says you need to trim it regularly, use a diffuser (“to set the curls in your bangs”) and products that keep your curls “expressive and defined.”

4. Fox red

“Copper hair and fall go together perfectly,” notes Roberts, and “fox red” is set to be a stunning fall 2023 trend, as seen in Daisy Jones and Six star Riley Keough.

“Red fox is a deep copper shade that has a more muted dark base, as opposed to the brighter copper shades that were previously on trend. It uses more red tones than orange, making it more neutral and less fiery,” explains Tyler Moore, expert hairstylist at Live True London.

While it can be customized to suit most skin tones, Moore suggests it’s best suited for people with “rosy reds and other cool undertones,” “as shades in this range can help draw attention away from any red pigmentation.”

If you have afro hair, Roberts adds, “Be careful because maintaining copper hair color takes a lot of time and effort,” and it’s important to keep your locks well-moisturized.

5. Chopped bob

“A choppy bob bridges the gap between a straight bob and something super layered—it helps add texture and movement to the hair, creating the perfect look that just rolls out of bed and looks super chic,” says Moore, who calls it a “fall haircut.”

In fact, Pinterest searches for “chopped bob haircuts”—perhaps inspired by Jenna Ortega’s “Wednesday star hairstyle”—have quadrupled in the three months leading up to the end of August, showing just how popular the style is becoming.

Moore adds, “If you’re a low-maintenance hair lover, this look is perfect for you. Styling requires a limited amount of products – dry shampoo or texturizing spray is enough. It can also add volume to fine strands and help lift weighed-down curls.”

The best thing about this look? “Styling a home is so easy—you can make it into whatever you want,” Moore says. “Whether you want to add some waves with a curling iron or just roll out of bed with a brush and texturizing spray, this look can be as low-maintenance or low-maintenance as you need.”

Roberts is also a big fan of fall beans. “Think of the ’90s Whitney Houston vibe,” she says.

“The best part about this hairstyle is that it can be tailored to your specific curl pattern, allowing you to highlight and enhance your natural hair texture.”
