The NRG Astrodome in Texas, better known as the Houston Astrodome, is known as the “Eighth Wonder of the World” in sports. It is a multi-purpose stadium that has hosted many sporting events since its inception. On February 12, 1989, this was the venue for the NBA All-Star Game. chicago bulls Star Michael Jordan is selected to the All-Star Game for the fifth time out of his 14th time this year.

Coming from the West are James Worthy, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone and Houston Rockets star Hakeem Olajuwon. Magic Johnson missed the game due to injury and was replaced by teammate Kareem.

Super Magnetic MC performed in the competition. Their raps had every player and coach at exhibition games hooked on their names. Julius “Dr. J” Erving was also in attendance.

Jordan’s team lost to Hakeem & Co. 134-143. Malone won the All-Star Game MVP.

Still, the game was historic for many reasons, but no trace of that glorious All-Star game is there anymore.

The home of the NFL’s Houston Texans is a state-of-the-art facility that also hosts the annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Being so close to a better stadium would be a disadvantage for the Astrodome. In the past, the MLB team Astros and NFL team Oilers were residents of this arena. The Astrodome has declined since being abandoned by sports teams and fans alike.

However, it still occupies a prime location and local authorities are working hard to find ways to capitalize on it. This historically designated site cannot be denied. Restoring it to conservation and historic standards will require additional resources and funding.
